Sir Martin Sorrell: data is king

According to WPP chief executive Sir Martin Sorrell data is to become an important commodity.

Twitter hits 25 billion tweets

Twitter has announced that over 25 billion tweets were sent in the last year, as global events, including the World Cup boosted traffic.

The micro-blog site claims that in excess of 95 million tweets are sent daily.

Euro Twitter HQ plea by PM

Twitter executives are thought to have received a plea from Prime Minister David Cameron to locate the mico-blogging site’s HQ in London.

Twitter bosses are said to have met with Cameron and London mayor Boris Johnson last Thursday at Number 10 in the hope to persuade them to locate in London over other European cities.

Deceptive social media sites containing undisclosed paid-for promotions are to be subject of a crack down by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT).

Handpicked Media failed to identify promotional content, prompting “precedent-setting” enforcement action by the OFT.

HMV confident of new strategy despite bleak trading

An 11% drop in like-for-like sales was reported by HMV Group in the first half of the financial year, with HMV UK & Ireland seeing like-for-like sales drop 16.1% to October 23rd.

At the start of the all-important Christmas trading period, the parent company of both HMV and Waterstone’s voiced concerns that severe weather conditions has and would continue to affect sales, with 60% of HMV’s annual sales coming from the second half of the financial year.
