UK Workers Given More Time....

British companies are now required to advertise posts in the UK for a month before going overseas for staff. The changes, announced by Home Secretary Alan Johnson, are aimed at giving UK workers a better chance of securing work. Until these changes, jobs had to be advertised in the UK for only a week before being going abroad for applicants.

The IPA Appoints New Members

During the IPA’s quarterly council meeting on Monday 7th September, Digital marketing agency Neoco became one of the Institute’s latest members. Neoco, whose clients include Microsoft and Samsung were joined by Brave, Offshore International Advertising, Beaconbrands and Seven Stones. These new additions take the total number of members to 270 with 16 newcomers in 2009 so far. The benefit of being a part of the IPA is the inclusion into a wider network of opportunities, services and awards. Its members actually generate an estimated £17.7bn a year, which amounts to a staggering 80% of all the UK’s advertising agency business.

The suggested £2m digital media account sees The Havas Group agency taking care of the company's display advertising, pay-per-click, SEO and affiliate marketing. The organisation, as the name cleverly suggests, allows consumers to send their gold in return for cash and recently enjoyed a TV campaign this Summer. eBay Sells Majority Stake in Skype

eBay, the online auction company has sold a majority stake in its internet telephone company Skype to a private investment group. for a cash payment of $1.9bn (£1.17bn).The group, led by private equity company Silver Lake, is made up of Andreessen Horowitz, the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board and Index Ventures and the stake was acquired for a cash sum of £1.9bn.Skype, which allows customers to make free telephone calls from their computers, was bought by eBay for $2.6bn in 2005, but they admitted they had paid over the odds for the company. They retain a 35% stake in Skype.
